National Multiple Sclerosis Society Awards Dr. Sergio Baranzini the Barancik Prize for Innovation in MS Research

Dr. Ari Green, the chief of the neuroimmunology and glial biology division here at UCSF, had this to say about Dr. Baranzini's award:


I am delighted to announce that our own Sergio Baranzini has been awarded the 2024 Barancik Prize for Innovation in MS from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  This is the highest prize awarded by the NMSS for creativity and innovation in our field and is remarkable testament to his contributions.  Sergio is being recognized for his pioneering efforts related to Omics and Big Data and utilizing international collaborations and groundbreaking approaches "to help us understand complex mechanisms that cause MS and to develop more precise approaches to stop the disease and end it by prevention." As mentioned by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, “Professor Baranzini has the vision and creatively to apply the power of global collaborations ... to tackle complex questions surrounding multiple sclerosis. Sergio's success reflects not only his individual accomplishments but also the exceptional impact he continues to have on his trainees, lab members and on our entire division. His commitment to excellence and his pursuit of meaningful contributions has not only set a high standard within our division but has brought well-deserved recognition.  It is inspiring for all of us to witness his passion and talent being acknowledged with this prestigious prize.
